I was going to write a different blog this week. I even wrote about 400 or 500 words before a set it aside because it hadn’t spent enough time marinating. Over the past few weeks I’ve felt all out of sorts; disinterested in my hobbies, irritable, or pissed off for no apparent reason.
I try very hard not to be political here, but enough is enough. I can only speak for me, and I’m tired of watching this farce play out on the global stage, so buckle up, today is going to be a rant.
There a lot of things on my mind, a lot of stress about things beyond my control; the continued misadventures of El Jefe and his “war” in Iran, his idiotic trade war with every country on the planet, trying to add his name to everything under the sun, threatening to bulldoze landmarks if he doesn’t get his way, oh, and also saying he’d be fine if Iran “took out” Los Angeles or San Diego in the name of peace.
Regardless of party affiliation, I think it’s safe to say no one outside of the president and his cabinet wanted a war with Iran, a trade war with our closest allies, increased costs for housing, healthcare, or a 90,000 square foot ballroom. No one I know wanted the “Arc de Trumph”, the Gulf of America, Lake Ontario, or the name Denali being rolled back to Mt. McKinley.
But wait, there’s more! Order now and we’ll include the promise of a Trump Phone at no extra charge!
- “No New Wars”: Not only did he start a war in Iran, he said it would be over “very quickly”, in four to six weeks, yet we’ve now been there for close to 8 months.
- Releasing all of the Epstein Files: He hasn’t, he won’t, and he’s breaking his own law on this one.
- He would end the War in Ukraine in one day: The war is still raging almost two years after he was elected.
- He would repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act aka Obamacare: We’re still waiting to hear the broad strokes of his “concept of a plan”.
- The DOGE Rebate of $2000: Not happening.
- The Tariff Rebate $5000: Not happening.
- The ACA Rebate $500: Remains to be seen, but let’s be honest, NOT FUCKING HAPPENING!
- Gas prices will be coming down very soon: Nope.
The level of corruption, dumbfuckery, and incompetence on display is breathtaking, so much so I feel dizzy, followed by a sudden compulsion to lay down in a dark room for 3-5 years, praying it’s all just a bad dream. Yet every day it gets worse.
The truth of the matter is this administration has no excuses, they control both the House and the Senate, they control the Supreme Court , and they control the Oval Office, yet all they can seem to do is blame a president that left office almost two years ago, and a political party that hasn’t controlled either chamber in YEARS. When it isn’t the previous president’s fault, it’s the press (actual quotes; “they’ve treated me very badly” or “they’re the enemy of the State), it’s the immigrants (“it’s Sleepy Joe’s open border policy), it’s China, it’s the EU, it’s the Communists, the Muslims, or it’s the LGBTQIA+ community.
Really? For the party of “Personal Responsibility”, they sure aren’t taking any responsibility for the current shitshow they’ve plunged us into.
The cost of diesel, gas, and groceries continue to climb with remarkable speed, affordable housing is becoming a thing of the past, and salaries have been stagnant for more than 20 years. Struggling to get by isn’t living. “Pulling yourself up by your bootstraps” doesn’t work anymore, not that it ever did. Taking care of your responsibilities, putting your own house in order isn’t possible if you don’t have the means to take care of those things.
Right now, people are struggling to get by. Promises were made to fix all of it; addressing astronomical healthcare costs, lowering monthly grocery bills that continue to skyrocket, and focusing on housing costs that are anything but affordable. None of this is getting addressed, and the people in charge are not doing the job they were elected to do, but if you listen to them, their “doing an incredible job” working for the American people “getting only the best deals” for the United States.
The President, the Congress, and the Senators are our employees and they are not being held to account. Every one of them campaigned on how they had a plan that was going to “help the average American” with the “issues they discuss at the dinner table” or some other line of bullshit, yet not one of them has done anything worthwhile in years for their employers – us, the American people! If any of us were fucking up this fast and picking up steam, we would have been thrown out on our asses months ago, years even.
Government is there to do for us what we can’t do for ourselves; infrastructure, maintain a level playing field, ensure that every American, EVERY GOD DAMNED ONE OF US has equal opportunity under the Constitution to live our lives as we see fit. Not just the ultra rich, not just the lobbyists, not just the benefactors of the elected officials or the officials themselves. ALL AMERICANS, end of discussion. If the Executive Branch and the Legislative Branch fail to address and protect the electorate, the Judicial Branch is there for us to pursue legal remedies to ensure those rights are not infringed.
What is going on in our country is wrong on so many levels. Seeing how the so called leaders of our country treat the people they are supposed to serve, the disrespect they’ve shown their allies around the globe shatters my heart. America used to inspire hope, be the measuring stick for the rest of the world, and when the chips were down, we were supposed to pull together and help one another, not tell one another to “fuck your feelings”.
The American people deserve better. The World deserves better.
